Pastor Mike Winger has done an in-depth review, including the hiring of biblical scholars, to look at the Passion Translation that is still being completed. He has raised some serious concerns about it, such as the addition of many words that are not in the original manuscripts, and the translation being done by one man only, which can lead to author bias, as opposed to using a group of scholars from different backgrounds. There are other concerns as well. I too find the Passion Translation to be beautifully written, but I steer clear of it now because of the legitimate concerns that have been raised. (This is my personal choice after researching this new translation, and may not be someone else's decision). As you said, each person must decide for themselves, with the help of the Holy Spirit, which translation works best for them. However, I wouldn't recommend using the Passion Translation without having other more accurate translations available for reference and study. I also would suggest looking into the concerns raised by Pastor Mike Winger, Melissa Dougherty, a christian apologetist, and some sincere biblical scholars. You can do so by going to Mike Winger's You Tube channel, and click on the episode entitled, "Before You Use the Passion Translation Watch This." It is very informative and will help you make your own decision about the use of the Passion Translation, and other translations as well. Thank you again Diana for addressing this very important topic. The written Word of God is the foundation upon which all Christians stand. God has truly blessed us with his Word, both written and spoken through His prophets throughout history. May God continue to guide you and bless you in the work that you do!

DeleteDiana suggested to use the translation that speaks to your heart. She took extra time to share her knowledge and her view. She wasn’t trying to convince us to see things her way.
Let’s look at this from a different angle. If God isn’t pleased with the Passion Translation, I believe He would let Diana know. Think about this, do you believe God is double-minded? Giving Diana messages each day for all of our benefit and at the same time allowing her to use a bible that was fallacy and would lead His flock astray? Not on His Watch! 🤍

ReplyDeleteNo, I do not believe that God is double-minded. The Passion Translation is not the only translation that Diana uses. I have been walking with God for almost 50 years, and I have been following Diana faithfully for several years now. I have been praying about this issue for many months, and Diana's teaching has given me the opportunity to share something that deeply concerns me.
According to The Bible Study Toolbox, "Bible translations come in different styles, each impacting how we understand Scripture. Some focus on accuracy, while others prioritize readability or clarity."
I agree that the Passion Translation is beautifully written. It is also appealing to spirit-filled people because it uses jargon with which we are familiar.
However, I started researching this translation, which hasn't been completed yet, after I was informed that there are problems with it. Pastor Mike Winger has done a very in-depth investigation of this new translation, which has been reviewed by several highly trained bible scholars. Dr. Tremper Longman, a bible scholar who has worked on a number of modern bible translations, describes the Passion Translation as a "highly, highly interpretive paraphrase", and not a true translation.
I have no problem with using a bible that is a paraphrase, as long as it is known to be a paraphrase. In this case the author, Brian Simmons, insists that it is a translation, even though he has added many words to the verses that are not part of the original manuscripts. The problem with doing this is that it can, whether intentionally or not, change the meaning of some of the verses. According to the bible scholars, this is exactly what has happened in the Passion Translation.
Another problem is that the author has claimed that at some time in the future, God plans to give him the 22nd chapter of the Gospel of John. There are currently 21 chapters in John's Gospel. This is definitely a red flag for me as it warns in Proverbs 30:5-6 ESV:
"Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar."
The credentials of Brian Simmons have been questioned, and the fact that he is the only author of this translation lends itself to bias. That is why most bible translations employ groups of bible scholars from different backgrounds to work on them.
My main reason for sharing this information is to make my brothers and sisters in Christ aware that serious concerns about the Passion Translation do exist. Several experienced, highly trained scholars have provided in-depth reviews on Pastor Mike Winger's You Tube channel for those who are led to investigate further.
I know that the Passion Translation is popular, and is used in many churches. The church that I attended stopped using it once they became aware of the problems.
It is my suggestion that new Christians, who have not read the bible before, consider getting a translation that pays closer attention to the words written in the original manuscripts.
Ultimately each church and each individual must follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit in deciding what to do.
Unfortunately, this comes across as spoken by a pharisee. Thank God for translations which help us better understand who God is and His words and ways, which lead to repentance.

If His will is that we love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves, and accept Him as Lord, and that's what this Bible translation does, then let it rest. Please. Otherwise, you're just bringing division. God will and does use this translation to transform lives.
Why do you accuse me? I'm not trying to cause division. I'm trying to share information, of which many Christians are not aware, so that people can make fully informed choices.

I'm glad that God has used the Passion Translation to bless you and others. It shows how big He really is. But it does not change the fact that there are problems with this translation that those seeking the truth have a right to know.
