 August 25, 2026

It is with deep sadness that I share with you the sudden and unexpected transition to Heaven of a great General in the earthly Military and in the Army of Light, Major General (ret.) Brett Cairns. Many of you will remember Brett is the author of the detailed Decrees and Declarations that he wrote up for all of us to use. At the end of today’s video, I will be sharing more about Brett and what I saw of his home-going to Heaven. Please be praying comfort and provision for his wife Janice and their family. Below is his obituary and a link to his Wikipedia page of an extraordinary military career and life. We love you Brett and Janice!

It is with unwavering respect and deep sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Major General (ret) Brett Cairns, who had an esteemed and distinguished decorated military career spanning 35 years. Brett transitioned to heaven on August 20, 2026.  He received his heavenly promotion as a General in the army of light. He was a man of unshakeable faith, a proud member of the watchman's journal family and will continue to serve in his new anointed position. Born in 1955, Brett lived an extraordinary life of service and commitment to others.

Remembered as a formidable yet quiet force, Brett's intelligent and resilient character served as the backbone of his impressive career and personal life. His strong, silent demeanor was balanced by a mind always open to new knowledge and experiences. His lessons, imparted to all lucky enough to know him, were simple yet profoundly meaningful: never cease learning, persist against all odds, love thy neighbor, and the unexpected gem - 'never go to bed angry and forgive quickly.’

Among Brett's many commendations and awards are the Medal of Bravery for saving another officer’s life who was drowning in the ocean. He also received the U.S Legion of Merit . He was an extraordinary fighter pilot and natural- born leader. As one of Canada’s “Top Guns,” he led many missions throughout North America, and overseas, in Europe , and Scandinavia. His relentless pursuit of excellence was reflected in all his endeavors, both professionally and personally. He was a high-level athlete, a power-lifter and he loved keeping his mind busy by building high-performance sports cars. However,  Brett's most prized achievements were not medals or honours but his family, who were his greatest joy and source of pride, along with his devoted faith and relationship with the father and wanted to serve.

Brett's legacy is an indelible one. His remarkable contributions echo in the halls of the Air Force and resonate in the world beyond. His legacy has changed the face of many military branches. To get a full understanding of just how much how extraordinary his career was, I encourage you to look up Brett Cairns on Wikipedia to read about just a summary of his service to his beloved countries, both Canada and the U.S.  Brett retired from the military in 2008 and subsequently entered the business world. After being given a lifetime achievement award in his field of endeavor, he retired from business in 2023.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Janice Cairns, daughters, Deserey Cairns (Josh Hooker), and Stephanie Cairns-Urquhart (Dave Urquhart). Grand children, Aiden and Anabella Hooker, Isla and Alexander Cairns-Urquhart and his brothers Glenn (Karen) and Brian Cairns with his beloved extended family members who will continue to carry his spirit and values forward.  Last but not least, his beloved pets, Maisie and Michael. The mantle of his legacy lies in capable hands, as he embodies his resilient spirit, intellectual curiosity, and unyielding commitment to service and excellence.

In lieu of flowers, a fund "Commemorating an Exceptional Public Servant" has been established in Brett's honor. Those wishing to convey their respect and admiration for Brett can contribute at the following URL: https://everloved.com/life-of/brett-cairns/donate/
